AB This oral presentation will outline the development and evaluation of a
major hypermedia education package on the management and prevention of
HIV/AIDS. The HIV Hypermedia Medical Education Project has been created
to provide a comprehensive computer based teaching program for
Australian medical students and general practitioners. The project
comprises an extensive database of reference material, a series of
interactive patient management problems and a series of tutorials on the
prevention and management of HIV infection. It has been developed
utilising Toolbook for Windows and runs on a 486 PC with 4MB of RAM and
a SuperVGA monitor running 1256 colours. The project has resulted in the
creation of a richly linked hypertext hierarchy containing over 1000
screens of information plus over 150 clinical photographs, x-rays,
diagrams, charts and sequences of animation. Users can elect to be
directed through various components of the program or can totally direct
their own learning experience.
